丁基防水嵌縫膠的基本功能是密封建筑的接縫，防風(fēng)雪、隔音、保溫、減震、改善居住條件。由于其獨(dú)特的阻擋冷風(fēng)滲透，有時(shí)也被列人隔熱保溫材料;密封儲罐、儲池、管道、溝渠的接縫，防止物質(zhì)損失、壓力泄漏及有害物質(zhì)的污染;防止接縫的積滲水、凍融及干濕交變，阻止固體物在接縫中沉積，保證接縫自由運(yùn)動，防止結(jié)構(gòu)本身被破壞;阻斷火災(zāi)及煙氣擴(kuò)散，對金屬結(jié)構(gòu)建筑接縫及連接組件起阻蝕保護(hù)和防腐密封作用;公路、跑道、橋梁、水壩、隧道接縫的防滲、耐候、耐油和抗壓力的密封及維修;結(jié)構(gòu)膠粘的密封，如:混凝土幕墻、金屬幕墻、石材及玻璃幕墻等建筑結(jié)構(gòu)的膠粘密封，中空玻璃構(gòu)件的膠粘密封，金屬屋面和剛性屋面的結(jié)構(gòu)密封。常用橡膠丁基防水嵌縫膠的主要特性及使用范圍見表1。
